A whole new world!

Life isn’t like the movies, but those places in the movies actually exist, for the most part at least. The best part is that you can visit these places at an affordable price!

The thought of studying in another country for a semester or longer may sound scary, but college is the best time to go because you can get funded to do so. Studying abroad will give you the experience of a lifetime, and will really help you expand your horizons. In addition to your normal studies, studying abroad is the best way to learn a foreign language and to get to know another culture first-hand.

If you aren’t comfortable with leaving for an entire semester or year, UNO offers summer programs that only last 2-6 weeks. A wonderful thing about studying abroad is the large pool of scholarships that are available. Just by Google-ing study abroad scholarships, you’ll be brought to many sites that offer tons of them. Also, if you study abroad via foreign exchange, you will be paying your tuition instead of international tuition at the other university.

Visit UNO’s study abroad program website for information on the different programs and scholarships available!

A SROWtastic weekend!

On March 9-11, the Orientation Leaders went to SROW, which stands for Southern Regional Orientation Workshop, in Charlotte, North Carolina. After preparing for months to stand out amongst many other universities, UNO OLs succeeded in their endeavor.

On the first day, the OLs “wowed” the crowd during the Roll Call with a step and cheer. Standing out at SROW requires a lot of energy, and UNO had it by cheering constantly, having a great attitude, and performing very well for the Song, Skit, and Dance Competition. Between performances, schools competed by playing Minute to Win It games, and Fred Johnson won Dragon Paper!

The second day consisted mostly of educational sessions that are taught by orientation staff members from various universities and professional staff, including some from UNO! After dinner and dancing, it was time to settle down and listen to the keynote speakers, Bryant Smith and James Robilott. Following this, all SROW participants went to the UNCC student union for a dance, karaoke, games, and photos at the photo booth.

After such a fun night, Sunday was the day to see who won awards and to depart for home. UNO brought back three awards: 2nd place in the Skit Competition, Caleigh Keith won Outstanding Graduate Assistant, and Claire Cummings won the SCVNGR Competition!

SROW is a memorable experience for everyone who attends, and UNO brought back so many great ideas to help improve our orientation program!
